I am the son of Yusuf Abdul-Hafiz and Sayida Abdul-Hafiz. The oldest of 3 children by Sayida (Mom). My sisters are Zainab and Atiyya.“The family is one of nature’s masterpieces”.What a blessing to be a part of a loving and nurturing family as a child! As a grown man now having raised my own family many of my lessons learned were definitely used teaching my children. Live and learn. Thankful for family. Blessed.
Love you
Abdul-Rahman

Being a family means you are a part of something wonderful.

It means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life.

No matter what.

OTHER THINGS MAY CHANGE BUT, WE START AND END WITH FAMILY

The Love of Family
Philadelphia To Me

Philly is an odd place for me.  My parents, all of my family, all are tied to this place, their pasts grounded in the cement, invisibly present in the stone of every building they show me and say “I was here when.”  My memories are just a handful, but they are colorful, vivid, meaningful because of the people they encompass.  We visit for weddings, for funerals, for holidays, for those most important times, and so it is; though I’ve never lived there in any real sense, in a way it is a home of mine, because my heart is cracked and a piece of it belongs to those people who make me.

There are moments in life, times and places that you wish you could keep in a box, to see and feel and breathe again and again long after it is done.  I’d like to preserve the Thanksgiving day which, in my family, is kind of like a Hallmark card come to life.  But I’d also like to keep the day my father gave us our own personal tour of the city.  It was nice to have James along because otherwise, I don’t think he would’ve taken the time to give us the tourist version of Philly.  Through his eyes, I saw himself, before me, just as he was.  Without knowing it he gave me his own memories, ones that I can keep and know long after he is gone.

My birth name... Raymond Henry Edwards. I was named after my Uncle, Robert Henry Edwards.

I was born on April  15, 1945 at 4:05am in a taxi cab, enroute to the Women’s Medical Hospital in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. My mother is Adelaide Murphy and my father…Samuel F. Wilson. I never had the opportunity to know my father but I have learned how to be the best father I can be to my children.

I adopted the Islamic religion in 1967 and had my name legally changed on January 10th 1969 to Yusuf Abdul-Hafiz. I am a proud father and husband.
